About Bir Billing

Bir Billing is a small village located in the west of Joginder Nagar Valley. This place is being recently developed for eco-tourism, spiritual studies and meditation. Since historic times, this place was ruled by the Pal dynasty. Bir is also home to Tibetan refugee settlement and numerous Buddhist Monasteries. This place is also quite popular among adventure seekers, who throng this place for adventure sports like- Para-gliding, Hand-gliding, trekking and more. Billing is an adjacent site from where para-gilders take off.

How to reach

By Road : This place is located 50 kilometres from Dharamshala. The nearest national highway is NH 20. 
By Rail : Nearest railway station is at Ahju. It is basically a narrow-gauge line that runs between Pathankot and Jogindernagar via Kangra. Pathankot is the nearest railway station, that connects this part of the state with the rest of the country. 
By Air :Nearest airport is the Gaggal Airport, located in the Kangra valley. Being a popular tourist site, cabs are available from the airport for this place.

  • Tourists can visit this place throughout the year. The paragliding tournament is generally organised during the month of October.

  • Dharmalaya Institute : It is an eco-campus, dedicated to service-learning and contemplative practice. It is charitable society which is dedicated to provide education, service and ways of compassionate living. It has a practical focus on sustainable development. 
    Sherab Ling Monastery : It is located in Chowgan, which can be accessed on foot or by car. 
    Bir Tibetan Colony : This place was established in the early 1960s in order to house the Tibetan exiles. This place is home to a number of beautiful Tibetan Monasteries and their tradition. 
    Deer Park Institute : It is centre for study of classical Indian wisdom traditions. It was established in 2006 Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche.

  • - This place is for hosting various tournaments for adventure sports. The Paragliding World Cup in 2015 was held here.
