About Dolphin's Nose

It is a headland which juts out of the sea and has a lighthouse. The rocky promontory  is situated 358 meters above sea level  and is 174 meters high and is shaped like a Dolphin's Nose. The unique landscape seems to be protruding out of the Bay of Bengal.  Also known as Black Mores Hill,  manganese and iron ore are shipped out from here.

How to reach

By Air : Visakhapatnam is the nearest airport, which is well connected with the rest of the country.
By Rail : The nearest railway station is Visakhapatnam which is properly connected with a railway network with the rest of the country. From here, the hillock is about 10 kms by road by hiring a cab or private car. 
By Road : There is a proper road network of national and state highways which connect the rest of the country with Visakhapatnam.

  • The illumination from the lighthouse can be seen from a distance of 65 kilometres, which helps sailors and fishermen find their way here if they are lost. There is also a hill nearby named the Dolphin hill which is a restricted Armed forces residential area and also serves as the headquarters of the East Naval Command. The area houses the Sagar Mata temple and the 700-year-old Ishaq Medina Dargah. In old times, sailors who used to sail from Vizag would seek blessings at both the places .A ropeway is going to be soon opened here from Kailasagiri hill for tourists to enjoy the view from above and to reduce the difficult roundabout path around the hill.

  • Visiting the temple, and mosque nearby, walking up the hill, and watching the breathtaking view of the bay of bengal, photography, are some of the activities which can be engaged in.
