About Ethipothala Waterfalls

This waterfalls is situated on the Chandravanka River which is a tributary of River Krishna. It is a 70 feet high mountain stream formed by the confluence of Chandravanka Vagu, Nakkala Vagu and Tummala Vagu, three streams which are tributaries of Krishna River, originating about 11 kms from Nagarjunasagar in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh.

How to reach

By Air : The nearest airport to reach Ethipothala waterfalls is Hyderabad. From Hyderabad, buses or taxis to Nagarjunasagar and from there private cars to ‘Ethipothala’ or from Hyderabad to Ethipothala directly.
By Rail : one has to board a local train to Macherla from Hyderabad, which is about 29 kms from Nagarjunasagar. From there local taxis, cars or other modes of transport can be available to reach Ethipothala. 
By road : The nearest roadway is from Macherla, from where taking state highway no.1, for 8 kms and then taking a left turn and drive for 3 kms to reach the waterfalls.

  • When to visit
  • The best time to visit the waterfalls is between June to October. The waterfalls, managed by Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation, is open daily and has an entry fees of Rs.20 for adults and Rs. 15 for kids.

  • What to eat
  • There is a small restaurant managed by Andhra Pradesh tourism near the waterfalls where tourists can enjoy the various delicacies offered.

  • Attractions
  • There are a few attractions near the waterfalls which are thronged by tourists- 
    - Crocodile breeding centre near the waterfalls where one can observe the reptiles in their natural habitat.
    - Two temples dedicated to Ranaganatha Swami and Dattatreya Swami are under the foot of the waterfalls. One has to descend a few steps from the falls to visit these two temples. 
    - There are small caves near this waterfall which tourists believe go all the way to Srisailam which is the abode of Sri MallikaArjuna (a jyotirlinga of lord Shiva).
    - NagarjunaSagar Dam, world’s largest masonry dam.
    - Srisailam wildlife reserve, one of the largest tiger reserves in India.

  • Activities
  • Trekking, picnic, bathing in the streams near the waterfalls, and watching the waterfall being illuminated by different lights in the evening, kayaking in the nearby river are some of the activities enjoyed by the tourists who visit here.
