About Hanuman Tok

This shrine in Sikkim is located 11 kms from Gangtok, on the road to another famous attraction, Nathu La. An immaculate and a divine place located in the upper reaches of Gangtok, Hanuman Tok is dedicated to Lord Hanuman, the Hindu God.This religious place in Gangtok is surrounded by lush greenery and a view of the third largest peak in the world, Mount Kanchenjunga. Hanuman Tok is currently looked after by the Indian Army.


How to reach

By Air : The nearest airport is Bagdogra. There are jeeps, taxis and private vehicles available from Bagdogra airport and from Gangtok Helipad.
By Rail : The nearest railhead is at New Jalpaiguri. This is well connected to most of the major cities in India. 
By Road : Hanuman Tok is located 11 kms from Gangtok.To get to this place, you can avail local taxis from the town.

  • When to visit
  • The best time to visit this place is from March to June.

  • What to eat
  • As this place is located on the top of a hill, there are not much eating options out here. One can explore good eating options along the roadside shacks when travelling towards Gangtok from here.

  • Attractions
  • The best part of is the view one gets, which comprises a site of a small part of Gangtok town and the alluring neighbouring hills and valleys.There is also a small temple of Saibaba near the Hanuman Temple. While here, you can also see several stupas or chortens and just before the entrance to the stairway, you will find a cremation ground of Namgyal Royal family of Sikkim.

  • Activities
  • - Except viewing the valleys and hills and the majestic Mount Khangchenzonga from the temple premises, and offering prayers there isn't much to do here.
