About Indira_Gandhi Zoological Park

Established in 1977 and named after former Prime Minister, Late Smt. INDIRA GANDHI,  this zoological park is located amidst the Eastern Ghats and a part of the Kambalakonda Forest Reserve and houses about 400 different species of animals. With its area of 625 acres, this is one of the largest zoological parks in Andhra Pradesh.

How to reach

By Air : The nearest airport is in Visakhapatnam which is connected with flights from major cities like Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and the rest of the country. From the airport, taxis or auto rickshaws can be hired to reach Indira Gandhi Zoological Park. 
By Rail : Visakhapatnam has its own railway station which is properly connected with the rail networks of the rest of the country. 
By Road : Visakhapatnam is well-connected to all the major cities by road. From the main town, the zoo park is about 5 kms.

  • There are several small and medium restaurants and eateries in and around the zoological park which offer various dishes to satisfy one's hunger.

  • Attractions
  • Various days commemorating the importance of nature such as World Forestry Day, World Sparrow Day and World Wildlife Week are celebrated here. There is also an education centre called "Bioscope" which raises awareness among the visitors about wildlife. The centre has an auditorium, library and interpretation centre as well. Animals like Rhesus Monkey, Bonnet Monkey, Mandrills, Olive Baboons and Sacred Baboons, Panthers, Tigers, Lions, Birds like Grey Pelicans, Rosy Pelicans, and Pied Horn bills, Painted Storks, and reptiles like Pythons, Snakes, Land Tortoises, Marine Turtle, Starred Tortoise, Terrapins and Water Monitor Lizards can be seen here.
