About Kawal Wildlife Sanctuary

It is is one of the important and oldest wildlife sanctuaries in Telangana established in 1964, which was carved out from Andhra pradesh as a separate state in 2014. Located in the Adilabad district of Telangana, this sanctuary boasts of several varieties of wild animals, plants, birds, reptiles, etc. In the year 2012, this wildlife sanctuary was declared as a tiger reserve to facilitate tiger passage through natural corridors.


How to reach

By Air : Since Adilabad doesn't have its own airport, Hyderabad airport tenders great service to its visitors. From Hyderabad, one can hire a taxi, private car or avail state buses to reach Adilabad.
By Rail : Adilabad has its own station, which is well-connected to the western and southern parts of India. 
By Road : Availing national highway no.7, Adilabad can be reached through Hyderabad airport by availing cars, private cars, or state buses.

  • When to visit
  • Winter is the perfect season to visit the sanctuary. The best time to visit is between November to June.

  • What to eat
  • Visiting the sanctuary, one should not carry any eatables or water so as to disturb the natural environment. So, it is advisable to search for good eating out options in the town of Adilabad.

  • Attractions
  • The wildlife sanctuary is a dry and dense forest with teak, bamboo and many other varieties of trees. The best thing about the sanctuary is that all the vegetation gets water from the river called Kadam. Tiger, leopard, gaur, cheetal, sambar, nilgai, barking deer, chowsingha, sloth bear are the species observed in the sanctuary. Variety of reptiles and birds are founded in the sanctuary. Along with teak forest Bamboo, Terminalia, Pterocarpus, Anogeisus and Cassias are rooted.

  • Activities
  • It has two watch towers from where tourists can have a view of the entire area spanning 892.23 sq.km. Tourists can also opt for jeep safari to watch the birds, animals, and various other fauna in their natural habitats.
