About Kibber Village

Kibber is village and a popular tourist destination in Himachal Pradesh located at an altitude of 4,200 metres. Like many other wonders in this state, this village also holds a record of its own. This village happens to be one of the highest inhabited in the world. It is located 18 kilometres away from Kaza and can also be accessed from Ki Monastery. This narrow valley, which is mainly composed of limestone, is known for a Buddhist Monastery and Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary.

How to reach

By Road : Kaza is the nearest town from where one can expect to get buses and hired cabs for Kibber Village. Regular government buses are available. 
By Rail : No direct railway connectivity is available. However, Joginder Nagar Railway Station is the nearest station located 370 kilometres away from Kaza. Buses are available from the station for Kaza.
By Air : Bhuntar is the nearest airport located 250 kilometres away from Kaza. Cabs for hire are available from the terminus as well.

  • Best time to visit this place is during the months of March and July and also during the months of October and November.

  • A number of guest houses and eateries are there that offers quality food and beverages. One can expect to find both vegetarian and non-vegetarian foods.

  • Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary : This sanctuary was established in the year 1992 and it covers an area of more than 2,000 square kilometres. This place is home to rare and endangered species of wild animals and medicinal plants. 
    Holy Source : Marked by prayer flags, this is the place where the teacher of the spiritual leader Dalai Lama breathed his last in the 1980s. This place is considered to be extremely holy by the Buddhists around the world. 
    Apart from these sites, there are some other places like an old Temple, which is decorated with frescos and a big prayer wheel and a conventional Buddhist Monastery.

  • The wildlife sanctuary at Kibber is an ideal place for a small photo-shoot. If you decide to explore this place in its totality, then one must dedicate an entire day to visit this place. 
    Also, there are a number of good picnic spots around this place where one can enjoy a small get together with their friends and loved ones.
