About Kinnaur

Kinnaur is one of the smallest district in the country and is widely known for its significance in the Hindu mythology. This place is home to the Kinner Kailash, a mountain which is considered as sacred to the Hindus. This place is an epitome of the religious tolerance that exists between the Hindus and the Buddhists. Apart from religion, this place is known for its apple orchards, handloom industries and adventure sports. Perhaps this is the reason why it is terned as the Land of the God.

How to reach

By Road : Kinnaur is located 235 kilometres away from Shimla. It is also connected with other cities like Chandigarh and Delhi.
By Rail : The nearest railway station is at Kalka, located 350 kilometres away. From the station, one can hire a cab or board a bus to reach this place. 
By Air : JUbbarhati Airport in Shimla is located 265 kilometres away. However,, another airport at Dehra Dun (Uttarakhand) is located only 154 kilometres away.

  • Best time to visit this place is during the months of April to October. The weather remains comparatively pleasant during this time of the year.

  • Reckong Peo : It is a serene town in the centre of the greater Himalyasa and is known for its majestic and breathtaking view of the mountains especially the Kailash Parvat. 
    Nako : It happens to be largest village in the district of Kinnaur and is particularly favourite with the trekkers and adventurers, The atmosphere of this village is spectacularly refreshing. 
    Kothi : It is a religious site and is highly revered by the Hindu devotees all over the world. The famous temple of Bharon Baba is located here. 
    Namgya : This place is known for its beautiful greenery and fields of barley, maize and orchards of apples. This spot is a favourite with the nature lovers. 
    Apart from that, there are other sites like- Ribba, Kalpa, Sarahan, Moorang and many more. Each one of them is beautiful in their own unique ways.

    If you want to explore this place in its entirety, then you must stay here for atleat 2-3 days and enjoy every moment of it. The night walks thorugh the town is indeed an wonderful experience.
