Kumarghat - Tourist Places of Tripura

About Kumarghat

It is located in the North Tripura district and is well known for the highest cultivation of pineapple in the entire state. Pineapples are exported to neighbouring states like Assam and Mizoram from Kumarghat. The prime occupation of the inhabitants here is extensive pineapple cultivation and it is the upcoming travel destination of Tripura.

How to reach

By Road : Kumarghat is 1808 kms from Kolkata, 597 kms from Guwahati, 496 kms from Shillong, 308 kms from Silchar, and 140 kms from Agartala. Buses are available from Agartala city towards Kumarghat. 
By Rail : The nearest rail head is Kumarghat on Northeast Frontier Railway, which is 475 kms from Kolkata via Guwahati. 
By Air : The nearest airport is at Agartala which is connected by all parts of the country.

  • The best time to visit this place is October to March, because the monsoons and the summers are not very feasible for uninterrupted tour.

  • - The nearby attractions or places of interest in Kumarghat are-
    Ujjayanta Palace - A mighty Palace of the Indo-Saracenic Archictecture built by Raja Kishore Manikya Bahadur during 1899-1901. It now houses the state legislative assembly.
    NeerMahal or the water palace- It was built in 1930 by Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya as a summer resort. It is the second water palace in India, the first one being the Jal Mahal in Rajasthan. 
    Benuvan Bihara- Magadha King Bimbisara had built this Vihara or monastery in a garden for Lord Buddha whom he considered as his Guru or teacher. Today it has a zoo and a deer park and small ponds. 
    Kamala Sagar lake- This huge lake was made by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya Bahadur in the late 15th century and the Kali temple on the hillock which dates back to 17th century and is also famous for the great fair held in October.
