About Nahan

Nahan is one of the perfect examples of a pollution-free tourist site, which is far removed from the dirt and dust of the cities. Owing to its green environment, this site is also a prosperous romantic destination. A number of legends are associated with this place. This plasce was founded by Raja Karan Prakash as his capital and it derieves it name from a sage named- Nahar. This quaint town is dotted with beautiful gardens, manmade lake and temples.


How to reach

By Road : Tourists can travel to this place from cities like- Shimla, Manali, Chandigarh and Delhi. The shortest route will be from Delhi via Saha. 
By Rail : Nearest railway stations are at Kalka, Barara, Chandigarh and Ambala. Taxis and buses are available from all these places.
By Air : Nearest airport is at Chandigarh, located 50 kilometres away. Cabs are easily available from the terminus.

  • Months between April and September is the best time to visit this place. The weather remains comparatively calm compared to other places in HImachal Pradesh.

  • Few good hotels and eateries are there that serve local dishes to the tourists. Here one can get the real taste of the local cuisines of Himachal.

  • Attractions
  • Renuka Lake : Located 37 kilometres from Nahan, this is not only one of the largest man-made lake in Himachal but is also home to an extensive collection of flora and fauna. The lake is named after the Goddess Renuka. 
    Rani Tal : Located very close to the town, this place is known for its glorious past and also for its proximity to the pristine nature.
    Suketi Fossil Park : Finally some cheers for the biology and fossil fanatics. Suketi is theme park, located 20 kilometres from Nahan and has been built centering round a real life fossil that was discovered here. This park is a first of its kind in the whole of Asia. 
    Jaitak Fort : This fort was constructed by Gorkha leader Ranjor Singh Thapa in 1810 and is one of the most fampus fort in this entire region. This fort has been built from the materials cannibalised out of the Nahan Fort.

  • - Nahan is famous for its lakes, both natural and man-made. These lakes offer an opportunity for activities like boating and fishing. If you are visiting with small children, then they will surely love to take a boat ride on these lakes.
    - Apart from that, one can also opt for some adrenaline-fulled activities like- trekking and forest safari. Nahan is located just along the Shivalik range, a popular trekking site.
