About Saramsa Garden

Also known as Ipecac Garden, Saramsa Garden established in the year 1922, is maintained by the Department of Forests and Tourism,  is an excellent recreation and picnic spot , home to Sikkim's most exotic orchids and other rare tropical and temperate plants.

How to reach

By Air : The nearest airport is Bagdogra. There are jeeps, taxis and private vehicles available from Bagdogra airport and from Gangtok Helipad.
By Rail : The nearest railhead is at New Jalpaiguri and Siliguri. These are well connected to most of the major cities in India.
By Road : Reserved or Local taxi is available from the market place and hotels. It’s approximately 14 km from Gangtok and located on the way to Pakyong.

  • This place can be visited throughout the year, but to  see the blossoming flowers one can visit during summer or springtime.

  • What to eat
  • There are several local shacks haround which offere snacks, meals and also tea and coffee for tourists to enjoy on their trip to this garden.

  • Attractions
  • The Saramsa garden is known to be the largest exporters of exotic flowers like Gerbera, Amaryllis, Lilies, Anthuriums, Dahlias, Roses, Gladiolas as well as Orchids and Cacti. A musical fountain and a swimming pool are the recent additions. It is also a popular venue for International Flower Shows.

  • Activities
  • Walking around the garden, exploring the fruit trees, rare medicinal plants, orchids and various flowers in bloom. People sometimes also come here for picnics with their loved ones.
