About Shimla

The first place that strikes our mind whenever we hear the name of Himchal Pradesh is- Shimla. The much talked about and extremely popular town is the jewel of Himachal and is home to a number of exotic places, some of which are even decorated with the title of National Heritage. Shimla is one of the most popular hill resort and here one can find snow as well as some touches of history.

How to reach

By Road : Transport options are available from all the major cities like- Delhi, Chandigarh and Dharamshala. 
By Rail : Kalka railway station (broad guage line) is located 90 kilometres away. Cabs are available from the station. 
By Air : The Shimla airport, also known as the Jubbarhatti airport is only 20 kilometres from the centre of the town.

  • When to visit
  • October to June is the best time to visit this place. Avoid visiting this place during the time of monsoon as most of the places remain closed.

  • What to Eat
  • Shimla has no dearth of quality restaurants, hotels and eateries. Here you can expect to find branded restaurants as well. All sort of cuisines are available here.

  • Attractions
  • Jakhoo Temple : This temple has the largest statue of Lord Hanuman in the world and this statue is a signature mark of entire Shimla. One can see this statue from most parts of Shimla. 
    Kufri : Located just 13 kilomtres from the main town, Kufri is often considered as the less crowded but colder and much higher cousin of Shimla. From here, the views of the city as well as the entire mountain range gets better and the climate becomes cooler. 
    Toy Train : Perhaps the only thing for which the name of Shimla is famous even in the farthest corners of the world. It is narrow guage joy ride that connects Kalka with Shimla. The ride passes through some of the most breathtakingly beautiful and picturesque tunnels and landscapes and is part of the national heritage site. 
    Himachal State Museum- This museum is a repository of some really atique and priceless artifacts like- coins, handicraft items and manuscripts. 
    Naldehra : Located 22 kilometres away from the main town and situated at an altitude of 2,200 metres, Naldehra is famous for its 18 hole golf club. 
    Apart from these, one can also visit- Chail, Wild Flower Hall Hotel, Retreat Building and the Himalayan Bird Park. If you intend to explore Shimla in its entirety, then you must devote atleast 3-4 days for it.

  • - Shimla is considered to be a paradisw for all. In you are here for trekking then you can visit places like- Kufri, if you intend to explore its beauty then you can opt for the toy train ride. Kufri is also known for skiing activities. 
    - The town of Shimla is also large enough and during the evening, there are a lot of things to check out, like the shopping centres at the Mall Road, the popular hangouts at The ridge or at the centre of city. One can also take a short walk around the town as well. 
    - Also, if you have fascination for architecture, then a visit to the Christ Church and the Institute for Advanced Studies is highly recommended.
