About Talakona Waterfalls

The Talakona waterfalls lies inside the Sri Venkateswara National Park in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, which was declared a biosphere reserve in 1989, owing to its variety of natural environment surrounded by dense forests, various wildlife and natural beauty. The water of the falls is believed to have healing powers and is enriched with herbal qualities. It is the highest waterfall in the state with a height of 270 feet or 82 metres.

How to reach

By Air : The nearest airport is in tirupati which is 74 kms way from the waterfalls and has well connected flights to Hyderabad. The nearest international airport is Chennai which is connected to all major cities of India.
By Rail: nearest railway station is in Tirupati which is about 58 kms away. From tirupati, taxis and cars can be hired to reach the waterfalls which is located in Nerabailu village.
By Road : regular state buses are available to tirupati and chittoor from major cities and towns of Andhra Pradesh. Taxis or mini buses can be hired from this two towns to reach Talakona waterfalls. Reaching Nerabailu village before 4.30 in the evening is important because entry is restricted after that.

  • The Talakona waterfalls can be visited during September to January.

  • What to eat
  • There are no restaurants in the vicinity, food is available in Bhakarpet, about 14 kms from the waterfalls. Therefore it is advisable to carry light food and water with oneself.

  • The nearby attractions are- ​ - Sri Siddheswara Swamy Temple located near the waterfall in the jungle dedicated to Lord Shiva. - Tirumala temple, second richest temple in India dedicated to lord venkateswara. - Sri Kalahasti temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. - Thumburu Theertham, a natural watercourse/pond. - Deer Park located in tirupati has several number of deer and various birds. - TTD or Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam Garden, near the Tirumala temple.

  • Activities
  • - The most popular activity near the waterfalls is trekking along the difficult path to reach the falls, the 240 metres long canopy walk also makes the trekking difficult and a favourite for adventure lovers who love rushing their adrenaline. Birdwatching, camping are other popular activities enjoyed by tourists here.
