Lying barely 3 kilometres from the entrance of the Great Himalayan National Park, Tirthan Valley is an untouched destination with plethora of delights. Located just along the Tirthan river which is surrounded by the snow-covered peaks of the Himalayas, this valley is famous for trout fishing as well and water sports. The friendly weather also adds to the tourists’ delight, and that’s why this place is being increasingly frequented by the foreigners.


How to reach

By Road- Buses are easily available from nearby towns and cities like- Delhi, Chandigarh and Shimla. Aut is the nearest place from where one can hire a cab for this place. 
By Rail- Ambala is the nearest station to this place, One can hire a cab from the station itself for this place. 
By Air- Nearest airport is at Chandigarh, located 135 kilometres away. Cabs and buses are available from the town at regular intervals.

  • The months between March to June and between October and November are the best time to visit this place. The weather remains favourable and conducive for daylong travelling.

  • Some small eateries are there that mainly serves snacks and light meals. Some delicious dishes on fish are available here as well.

  • River Crossing- Located just across the Tirthan river, This site is more of a adventure site. Here you can actually glide across the river, just by using a harness. This site is for the adventure seekers as well as for the nature lovers. 
    Great Himalayan National Park- This place is located 20 kilometres from the main town and is home to a large number of wildlife. This place is also home to a large number of plant species as well. 
    Apart from these, one can also visit the nearest waterfalls and Jalori Pass as well. The scenic beauty of the waterfalls along with the natural ambience, is something that you cannot find everyday, everywhere.

  • - Trout Fishing is perhaps the most common activity in this region. The Tirthan River is filled with brown and rainbow trouts, and enthusiasts from round the world visit this place to enjoy the fresh weather and enjoy fishing in the wilderness.
