Often called as The Jewel of the East Coast,  Visakhapatnam, better known as Vizag, is a port city located on the Eastern Ghats along the Bay of Bengal coast. It is known for its pristine beaches and scenic landscapes, along with a rich cultural and historical heritage. It is also serves as the base for the Indian Navy's Eastern Command.

How to reach

By Air : The nearest airport is in Visakhapatnam itself which is well-connected with the rest of the country. 
By Rail : Vizag is well connected by railway to New Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Chennai. Express trains are available on a daily basis to all the four major cities.
By Road : Frequent and regular bus services are available to Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Chennai, Bhubaneswar and Tirupati from and to Visakhapatnam.

A famous celebration is the Dhimsu dance performed by tribal women from the hills in their traditional costumes. Visakhapatnam is a very important shipbuilding centre and the first steamer to be built in India was launched in Vizag's harbour in the year 1948.
