Barapani or Umiam Lake in Shillong is a beautiful place. Umiam Lake is a reservoir located in the hills 15 km to the North of Shillong in the state of Meghalaya, India. It was created by damming the Umiam river. The lake provides residents with water and is also their source of fish. Umiam literally translates into 'water of tears. Surrounded by coniferous forests, it is a truly special getaway for those travelling to Shillong.
